THE TRIBUTE TO GABRIEL KNEY WAS A STUNNING MUSICAL AND CULTURAL EVENT.
(Look for our preview of the 2017-2018 season below.)
The classic St. John the Evangelist church venue in which we honoured the craftsmanship of Gabriel Kney and his fellow organ builders was the site of a remarkable fusion of great music and human endeavour. We all were spellbound by the capability of the Kney organ itself to produce the sounds from scores written years ago by Bach, Mendelssohn, Cabina and Cook when transferred to the keyboard by Michael Bloss and Angus Sinclair. The ambience of the evening was set by the welcome by Reverend Hutchison-Hounsell, and the heartfelt words about the Kney organ by music director Dr. Allan Bevin. Renée Silberman's program notes added to the understanding of the significance of the evening. The standing ovation for Michael Bloss and Angus Sinclair was shared by Gabriel Kney. Those of us in attendance recognized that this was a unique opportunity for Londoners to hear wonderful music and to honour one of our own.
